The Salem Mission - dedicated to ending homelessness on the North Shore
The goal of The Salem Mission (TSM) is to end homelessness on the TSM’s goal is to provide a path: from shelter to single room; from single room to studio; and finally from studio to independent living.
In late 2007, TSM opened 22 units of supportive housing for individual adults. TSM also runs a homeless shelter for individuals providing 34 year round beds and an additional 18 during winter months.
In its next housing project, TSM will seek to develop studio apartments, with a kitchenette and bathroom in each unit, at the same time reducing the number of beds in the shelter.
TSM's food programs serve more than 300 meals each day to the community (including many elderly and young people) and its Food Bank serves more than 1,600 families.
Additionally, TSM provides, wherever possible in partnership with others, services in the fields of health, education and employment.
TSM's plans to end homelessness have been hailed as a "national model". For more information about TSM go to www.salemmission.org. Click on Press to read recent articles about TSM.
